Tense দ্বারা সময়কে উল্লেখ করা হয় এবং সেটি বর্তমান, অতীত কিংবা ভবিষ্যত হতে পারে। কোন কাজ সম্পাদনের সময়কে tense বা কাল বলে।

Tense ৩ প্রকার ঃ
১।The present tense (বর্তমান কাল)
২।The past tense (অতীত কাল)
৩।The future tense (ভবিষ্যৎ কাল)
প্রত্যেকটি tense-কে আবার চার ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়।
১) Indefinite (অনির্দিষ্ট)
২) Continuous (চলতি অবস্থা)
৩) Perfect (সম্পন্ন বা শেষ অবস্থা)
৪) Perfect continuous (পূর্ব থেকে আরম্ভ হয়ে চলতে থাকা)


Present Indefinite Tense

যেসব কারনে Present Indefinite Tense হয়,

১) চিরন্তন সত্য বা বিজ্ঞানসম্মত সত্য
--Man is mortal
--Man can not live alone
--Water freezes at 0° centigrade(পানি শূন্য ডিগ্রি সেন্ট্রিগ্রেডে জমাট বাধে)

২) নৈতিক বা পর্যবেক্ষণজাত সত্য
--Honesty is the best policy
--Necessity knows no law ( প্রয়োজন আইন মানে না)

৩) অভ্যাসগত কাজ
--I read Quran everyday
--He takes class everyday
--He goes to bed at ten pm every day (সে প্রতিদিন রাত দশ টায় ঘুমাতে যায় )

৪)নিকট ভবিষ্যতের কাজ বা ঘটনা
--Our school open next week
--I give you a book tomorrow

৫) এখনই যে কাজ ঘটেছে তা বুঝাতে
--It rains
--He sleeps

৬) অন্যের উক্তি উপস্থাপন করতে
--He said “ I kill you “

৭) ঐতিহাসিক ঘটনা

Structure:
Subject + Main Verb + Object.

নোট ঃ
১)Sometimes, often, usually, occasionally, every+time (hour, day, year etc.), now and then, always, seldom, daily, regularly শব্দ গুলো থাকলে present indefinite tense হবে ।
২)Subject third person singular number (he, she, it, কোন ব্যক্তি, বস্তু, জায়গা বা প্রাণীর নাম) বোঝালে verb এর শেষে s বা es বসে।

Present Continuous Tense

এই মুহূর্তে ঘটছে এমন কাজ বুঝাতে এবং ভবিষ্যতে ঘটবে এমন কাজ বুঝাতে Present continuous tense ব্যবহার হয় ।

Structure

Subject+ am/is/are+v-ing
== I+am+v-ing
==You/Plural noun/Plural pronoun+are+v-ing
==Singular noun/Singular pronoun+is+v-ing

Example

এই মুহূর্তে ঘটছে এমন কাজ বুঝাতে
--I am writing right now (আমি এখন লিখছি)
--He is playing cricket(সে ক্রিকেট খেলছে)
--You are watching the movie(আপনি চলচ্চিত্রটি দেখছেন)

ভবিষ্যতে ঘটবে এমন কাজ বুঝাতে
--We are leaving tomorrow morning(আমরা আগামীকাল সকালে চলে যাব)
--She is speaking at the conference this evening.(তিনি এই সন্ধ্যায় কনফারেন্সে কথা বলবেন)

Note
1.যে শব্দ গুলো থাকলে present continuous tense হবে: today, this morning, this evening, at this moment, now, continually, constantly, at present.

Present perfect tense

ঠিক এই মাত্র কাজটি শেষ হয়েছে , সময়ের উল্লেখ নেই বা নির্দিষ্ট নয় এমন কোন অতীত ঘটনা প্রকাশ করতে , যে কাজ অতীতে শুরু হয়েছিল কিন্তু এখনো শেষ হয় নি এরুপ ঘটনা প্রকাশ করতে Present perfect tense ব্যবহার হয়

Subject+have/has+verb(past participle)
==I/plural noun/plural pronoun+verb(past participle)
==You/singular noun/singular pronoun+verb(past participle)

ঠিক এই মাত্র কাজটি শেষ হয়েছে
He has just gone there

সময়ের উল্লেখ নেই বা নির্দিষ্ট নয় এমন কোন অতীত ঘটনা প্রকাশ করতে
I have watched the movie but i have forgotten the most of part(আমি মুভিটি দেখেছি কিন্তু তার অধিকাংশ অংশই ভুলে গেছি)

যে কাজ অতীতে শুরু হয়েছিল কিন্তু এখনো শেষ হয় নি
I have lived here for 17 years now (আমি এখানে এ প্রযন্ত ১৭ বছর ধরে বাস করছি)

Note

1.যে শব্দ গুলো থাকলে present perfect tense হবে: just, just now, recently, lately, already, so far, yet, ever.
2.As soon as,after,before,when ইত্যাদি দ্বারা শুরু হয়েছে এমন clause দ্বারা প্রকাশিত কোন future ঘটনাকে Present perfect tense প্রকাশ করা হয় ।
3. For , since এর ক্ষেত্রে present perfect tense ব্যবহার হয় ।
3.a) কোন নির্দিষ্ট সময় বুঝালে since আর কিছু সংখ্যক পরিমান সময় বুঝাতে for ব্যবহার হয় ।
--I have lived here for 17 years now (for+ period of time)
--I have lived here since January, 2000

--I have eaten rice(আমি ভাত খেয়েছি)
-- I have read the book(আমি বইটি পড়েছি)
-- He has done it(সে এটি করেছে)
--They have made the garden(তারা বাগানটি তৈরী করেছে)
--He has completed the work(সে কাজটি সমাপ্ত করেছে )
--He has just played football(সে এইমাত্র ফুটবল খেলেছে)

--Now I am reading a book(আমি এখন একটি বই পড়ছি )
--He is working in the garden at this moment(সে এই মুহূর্তে বাগানে কাজ করছে)
--The weather is changing(আবহাওয়া পরিবর্তিত হচ্ছে )
